COMPANIES IN THE PRIVATIZATION PORTFOLIO

Since 1985, State shares in 244  companies, 4 power generators, 22 incomplete plants, 29 energy generation and distribution units and 5 real estates have been taken into the scope of privatization portfolio. Later, 23 of these companies, 4 power generators and 4 real estates were excluded from the portfolio for various reasons. One of these companies was T. Ogretmenler Bankasi, which was merged with Halk Bankasi in May 1992 and Denizcilik Bankasi which was merged with Emlak Bankasi in November 1992

When we look at the past 15 years, we observe that;

* State completely withdrew from cement, animal feed production, milk-diary products, forest products, sivil handling and catering  services and petroleum distribution sectors.

* More than 50 % of the State shares were privatized in  tourism, textile, iron and steel, sea freight and meat processing sectors.

* State has partially withdrawn from the ports and petroleum refinery sector.

* Privatization of public banks has commenced with Sumerbank and continued with Etibank, Denizbank ana Anadolu bank. In May 1998, the international and domestic offering of the 12.3 % State shares in Is Bank was completed. It has been the 1998's largest public offering and marked one of the highest privatization figures among the European Emerging Markets.

* An expenditure saving implementation was performed for the first time at Kardemir privatization through free-of-charge transfer, to public industrialists and employees of the region.

* Public shares in many companies were issued to the public, particularly in the beginning of this decade and this enhanced the institutionalisation of İstanbul Stock Exchange.

Currently there are 31" companies and some real estates in the portfolio and 21 of these companies have more than % 50 State shares.
