Since
1985, State shares in
244
companies,
4 power generators,
22
incomplete plants, 29 energy generation and distribution units
and
5 real estates
have been taken into the scope of privatization portfolio.
Later, 23
of these companies, 4 power
generators and
4 real estates were
excluded from the portfolio for various reasons.
One of these companies was T.
Ogretmenler Bankasi, which was merged with
Halk Bankasi in May 1992 and
Denizcilik Bankasi which was merged
with Emlak Bankasi in November
1992
When we look at the past 15
years, we observe that;
*
State completely withdrew from cement, animal feed
production, milk-diary products, forest products, sivil handling and
catering services and petroleum distribution
sectors.
*
More than 50 % of the State shares were privatized in
tourism, textile, iron and steel, sea freight and meat
processing sectors.
* State
has partially withdrawn from the ports and petroleum
refinery sector.
*
Privatization of public banks has commenced with Sumerbank
and continued with Etibank, Denizbank ana Anadolu bank. In
May 1998, the international and domestic offering of the
12.3 % State shares in Is Bank was completed. It has been
the 1998's largest public offering and marked one of the
highest privatization figures among the European Emerging
Markets.

An expenditure saving implementation was performed for the
first time at Kardemir privatization through free-of-charge
transfer, to public industrialists and employees of the
region.
*
Public shares in many companies were issued to the public,
particularly in the beginning of this decade and this
enhanced the institutionalisation of İstanbul Stock
Exchange.
Currently
there are
31" companies and some real estates in the portfolio
and 21 of these companies have more than % 50 State shares. |
